6 months of Scarlet

We've hit the half birthday mark (tomorrow) of Scarlet's first year. At six months, Scarlet (aka Scar-Louie, ScarBar, ScarBaby, Crazy Cakes, and Scar) weighs in at a whopping 19.5 lbs. She's as tall on the charts, though, as she is heavy. Part of the reason for her size may be her serious appetite.

She continues to down formula (I refer to this as powdered gold - $$$!), any and all varieties of baby food, cereal, and has recently taken a liking to pancakes and waffles. We found this out when she snatched one from a classmate sitting beside her at breakfast. Here come textures!

She's just doing so much! She's rolling around on the floor and sitting with support. She often pulls off her socks and eats her feet. She does this thing where she arches her back, and balances on her head and feet. A "back bend" if you will. She also uses this same position to move around the floor. Sort of crawling on her back. You can hardly hold her for a bottle anymore. She constantly is using her feet and pushing off of you to try to get going.

She is talking her little head off. I knew early that Scarlet was going to be a verbal child. She coos and "talks" to anyone that will interact with her. And often just talks to herself. She'll often wake up at 5am and talk to herself for a little bit before drifting back off. Doesn't need or want anything. Just needs to talk it out.

She continues to smile at the drop of a dime. She's really the most pleasant baby. Even when she's sick, you'd never know. She loves watching her big brother and looks for him when she hears his voice. He soaks up the face that he amuses her. Love the two of them together.

Big stuff! Holding the bottle by herself. We're about 60% with this.

Pleased as punch to read a book at the table while we finish dinner.

Poor thing. Got her Momma's wild hair.

A little snack before bedtime.

REALLY trying to get going.

Goofball. This makes me wonder if she'll be an acrobat and dangle above crowds by her teeth.

And sometimes, she just can't make it to the 7pm mark.

Cold granite...

...makes for a happy Scarlet!

Double ear infection day. The saddest.

Passed out again, early evening.

Clearly will like seafood when she's older.
Of course you see Scarlet, but do you see Emerson in this picture?

A weekend in the life of...

As we wrap up a few little projects around the house, and start on others, our weekends quickly get consumed with "to-do's" as well as the regular upkeep with laundry, cleaning, grocery shopping, etc. Despite the hectic lives we all lead, we always, always make time for fun. We had lots of great time with the kiddos all weekend. With Jason's upcoming birthday, we also spent an evening out with friends. Many thanks to our go-to Aunt/Godmother/Babysitter-extraordinaire, Aunt Jeeka.

Saturday morning pancake time!

Very pleased with herself.

So this happened.

And then this happened.

Celebrating Jason's birthday with friends...

and beverages.

Emerson tried out some new goggles (a gift from the Lipps last summer, finally opened!)

Who says you can't swim in January? (This child would never get out of the bath.)

I don't even know how to caption this photo.

He's so excited for summer swimming!

ALWAYS Goofin'!

Emerson is a total goofball. It comes so naturally to him. No idea where he gets that.

Playing along with Harper's "Brave" wig.

Showing off his manicure.

I could hardly stop laughing long enough to take these pictures...

He does this stuff on his own...

Umprompted...

And maybe a little scary.

Showing off a new haircut.

And he leaves me these self-portraits on my phone without my knowing.
Love that boy.

Brrrr.

We're still digging out from Christmas, it seems, with some lingering coughs, another double ear infection for Scarlet, and various home projects underway. This is the time of year we tend to hunker down, and leave the house only when we have to. It was a bitter 4 degress this morning when I was driving the kids to school! I know it's a ways off, but I'm ready for summer. I'm ready for warmth. Vacations. Long bike rides. And sunshine! In the meantime, we'll make the most of this chilly weather.

Just layin' around. He acts like he doesn't like it when she pulls his hair, but he goes in for it every time!

He loves his sister so.

A post-Christmas visit with Harper. She got to meet Scarlet for the first time! And she got right to work!

Showing off her "Brave" wig from her Dad.

Scarlet and Great Grandma Flowers

Cousins.

Having a ball!

Harper just needed a little help.

As long as I can remember, if my Dad was holding a baby, this happened. I don't know why. It's just what he does.

60+ degrees in January!

Catnap on the swing.

And a driveway firepit night!

Mallow time.

Maps and puzzles...two of Emerson's favorite things (right behind tornadoes)!

Triplets and Chinchillas

Emerson is funny. He knows he's funny. He can deliver lines really well. But, sometimes, he doesn't mean to be funny, and makes me laugh...hard.

ME - "No, Jason, I think those blonde boys are triplets. Emerson, do you have triplets in your school."
EMERSON - "No, Mommy...those are chinchillas."

Here kitty kitty!

It's no secret that I don't like cats. I just wish they didn't poop in a box in the basement. And didn't meow. But, it's hard to not adore how much my kids enjoy Kramer. He curls up with the kids when they're rolling around the floor. I took a couple pictures of Scarlet with Kramer tonight, and quickly knew there was something familiar about them. Emerson, at this same age, had a similar relationship with Kramer. Lots of fistfuls of cat hair. And Kramer loves the attention!

Scarlet is in the pink pants. And Emerson is in the yellow sweatshirt. Oddly enough, these pictures were taken nearly 4 years to the day apart.
