Emersonisms - June Edition

I may have missed a month of Emersonisms. Turns out that time in the car with him to/from school is when I get most of my material for these posts. He's still witty as ever. I just receive it at different times.

Last night, while watching the movie "Up," he asked an especially interesting question. The old man was getting dressed, complete with suit, bow tie, hat, etc. Emerson whispered his questions to me...

Emerson: Momma, when am I going to get grown up clothes?
Me: Em, do you want some nicer clothes?
Emerson: No, I mean grown up clothes. For when I'm older.
Me: You mean in adult sizes?
Emerson: Yes, can we just get them now so I don't have to go get them when I'm an adult?

Yes, he calls me Momma. He introduced this name for me at a young age, and hasn't changed it. And I love hearing him say it. So much. As long as this boy wants me to do his clothes shopping, this Momma will! And he clearly got my "organization" gene. Planning his adult wardrobe before he gets to Kindergarten!

His questions continue to astound us. There is a worldly knowledge to this child that we weren't expecting. When we're watching a show or movie, he identifies inconsistencies that we wouldn't otherwise catch. This applies to sets, people placement, story lines, and the like. He does the same with books, including a children's book of Jason's, that he has read dozens of times in the last few decades. After reading once, Emerson noticed a discrepancy in the order of cars from one page to the next. They visually introduced a character via illustration, that they hadn't yet introduced in the story.

To balance the wild, Emerson has a very analytical side to him. As much as his inquisitiveness is part of our daily life, it also never ceases to amaze us the depth at which he thinks about things.

And then he has to leave the dinner table, because he won't stop farting.
