Emersonisms - February Edition

There are a few good one-liners we've jotted down in the past month...

We see a lot of kids at bus stops in shorts. Emerson is quiet envious. So much so, that he's thinking pretty far forward to how shorts might impact his career selection.
If I'm a tornado chaser, do I get to wear shorts to work every day?

Emerson knows he's Scarlet's brother. But, he's weird. And that comes out a lot in conversation.
I’m a really good uncle. I’m Scar’s uncle. I’m a really great uncle.

While driving to a doc appointment on 270...
Why does this road have three aisles?

On that same drive...
Why does everything have dot-com? It's on trucks, on commercials, on signs. What is dot-com?

And in response to Jason this morning, on our umpteenth request to put his clothes on.
Oh, look at you and your spiky hair.

Cabin Fever

February is in full swing, and cabin fever is at an all-time high. Snow is one thing...but those bitter, unbearable temps are another. Thankfully, we have our love to keep us warm. And video games. And post-Christmas lights. And monster trucks. And movies. And friends for an overnight. And dogs. And bowling...You get the idea. We're ready to break out!!! This quick thaw these last couple of days has us jonesing for Spring even more-so!

Scarlet ooh-ing and aah-ing at the lights at Alum Creek.

Sometimes, after a long day in the toddler class, you just need to curl up with a binky and a blanket.

Sometimes, after a long day in Kindergarten, you need to set up targets and use that cool, new bow and arrow.

Emerson and I found an afternoon to go see Frozen. We won't be doing a 3D movie again in the near future. Emerson got a little queasy with motion sickness.
GG came for a visit. And we finally captured these two with their "GG faces."

Scarlet did not like Berlynn playing big sis to her, and guiding her and Norah in the use of the toys.

Emerson and Berlynn

The girls...putting on a dance show. And a recently-neutered dog taking the stage.

Recently-neutered dog...looking less than pleased with his new accessory.

The dads and boys all went to Monster Jam!

Ready to roll!

And this is what Scarlet and I did that day.

Scarlet has to be right up in there. Shortly after this photo, there was surely a swat. I think you can see it rearing up on Emerson's face.

We fought colds and illness. This is sick-hair.

A quiet moment on the couch.

She survived. By the look of this photo, you wonder how. Pathetic lil' thing.

Killing a Saturday afternoon with airbrush tattoos. Crayola has come a long way since I was a kid.

Running amok.

With a bowling alley nearby, we all warmed up with a little activity, draft beer, and really terrible mini corn dogs. But it DID pass the time!

Cheering us all on.

And some weekends include a family grocery outing! I don't know who the driver and who the passenger are. But I know this...with one of these two behind the wheel, this car is going fast.

Post-Christmas Christmas (Lancaster)

(Still. Catching. Up.)

We worked in a few treks to Lancaster during all our holiday fun.

We had a great visit with Harper Marie. She even chauffeured Scarlet in the Jeep. I'm missing these moderate temperatures that the pictures show! Would be great to get the kids outside to run some of that energy off these last couple of weeks! Instead, we patiently wait for days to pass for warmer weather.

Emerson's face in this one. Lord almighty.

Siblings. This undoubtedly ended with a collision.

Cousins.

Cousins.

A sleepy little girl.

Dining the way a toddler should in Poppy's house...rump rested on phone books.

We headed back down between Christmas and New Year's to spend some time with GG, Aunt Lala, some of Lala's friends, and the whole family!

Never a dull moment with this one.

Emerson...tolerating Poppy.

Scarlet took a liking to GG's new door mat. And GG got a kick out of it!

Sledding!

Finally, the temperatures were right for sledding. This made for a happy little boy, and Dad...and a sad little girl.

This is what happens when a little girl sees her brother and dad suit up and head out. She wouldn't have been able to keep up with the ages of the kids going. Despite that, she brought me her sparkly boots. She brought me her hat that hasn't fit since last winter. And she brought me her light rain jacket.

Jason, Emerson, and some neighborhood friends headed to the hills at the soccer park. And had a blast!

18 Months of Scarlet - She'll shoot your eye out.

Scarlet has rounded the corner on toddler-hood with this recent half birthday. In that short year and a half, Scarlet's personality has emerged, and then some. She is incredibly happy. When you catch her eye across the room, or in the rear-view mirror, she'll give you a smile that could light a room. Her independence astounds me. She is sassy and sweet. I joke that she's our sour patch kid (like the candy) because she'll have a moment of sass or resistance...and follow it up with such love and sugar, that you instantly forget the prior act. My best (and nicest) way of describing her behavior...is that she is a pistol. I feel a little granny-like when I use this term, but it's accurate. She's a pistol. And she'll shoot your eye out.

She has a vocabulary that won't quit. She talks non-stop. Jibber. Jabber. And the like. And when she's not speaking, she's singing or humming. Music moves her. Literally and figuratively. This little girl can get down, and doesn't miss a beat. One of her favorite things to do is turn on the record player, and get down to the Beatles on a nightly basis.

Aligned with her personality, physically, she's off the charts. Topping out at 32 lbs. at 18 months, Scarlet remains in the 97+ percentile. Height and head circumference are in this same, extreme category. Dainty, she is not.

She can eat blueberries by the pint and when we have corn as part of our dinner, she'll eat Emerson's, Jason's, her own, and mine. I blame this on my own pregnancy obsession with corn. She also has a penchant for sweets. She knows where the junk drawer is, and tries to regularly help herself. We occasionally give in to a sucker. And then usually regret it as we're cleaning up a sticky mess, or de-tangling it from her hair.

She has her own sense of style. Today, we left the house with three of my own head bands on her head. Yesterday, she wore snowman slippers to school. And for the past three days, the only time she's not wearing pink mittens is when I can find a good hiding place for them.

Determined.
She insists on carrying her school bag, despite the fact that it's bigger than her. It's even cuter when she carries it on her back.

She loves, loves, loves intensely. Even Parmesan cheese.

Our little crystal child has a penchant for animals. She loves them so hard, that it hurts them, sometimes (albeit never seriously).

More animals...more to love.

Adores this dog of ours.
Rarely a moment without a goofy face...

Or smile...

Or jokester grin.

She's as wild as her hair...

And interested in everything she shouldn't have access to.

She gobbles her food.

Makes messes in moments.

Gets a kick out of herself.

And has a weird side that won't quit. She insisted on wearing Emerson's monster truck headphones for 3 days...even during meals.

She's fearless.

And loves that big brother of hers.

Her creativity...and goofiness...and sweetness is all rolled into one.

Likely wearing sunglasses as she looks to her VERY bright future.

Gosh, we love her so.
