Thank Heaven for Jeekas

Jess offered to have Emerson for an overnight a while back, and this was the only weekend mostly free of activities, so Jason and I planned a non-planned evening. After Emerson's flag football draft, he went to Auntie Jeeka's (He knows it's Jessica, and can pronounce it perfectly, he just prefers this. And so do I.). Jason and I headed to Easton for errands, and a very leisurely dinner. Meanwhile, Jess was entertaining Emerson. And Emerson was entertaining Jess!

They played football at the park, made homemade pizzas (apron included), made a trip to Target for "Mack" (truck from Cars), and had elaborate conversations. Two are noted below.

EMERSON: “Jeeka, do you say omigosh?”
JESSICA: “I like to say oh my stars.”
EMERSON: “Do you say oh my jesus?”
JESSICA: “No…”
EMERSON: “My mommy does.”

Note: This is a complete fabrication. I have never in my life used that phrase. Little white lies lately. Working on it.

EMERSON: “Jeeka, my mommy’s name is Janice. But you sometimes call her Jan.”
JESSICA: “I know, and she’s my sister.”
EMERSON: “And Poppy is your brother?”
JESSICA: “No, Jared is my brother. Poppy is my Daddy.”
EMERSON: “And then who is your mommy?”
JESSICA: “Mia is my mommy.”
EMERSON: “Yeah, and she’s not here anymore. Do you miss her?”
JESSICA: “I do. But she’s in heaven and very happy.”
EMERSON: “Yes. She is.”

"But, I love him!"

Emerson has become randomly attached to new finds. While cleaning the garage, Jason came across a  small, stuffed horse I got Emerson a couple years ago while in San Antonio for a work trip. He's hardly parted with it in the last 4 days.

Yesterday, I was upstairs with Emerson getting him a sweatshirt before we headed out for a walk to the park, and he ducks into the nursery and pulls a random stuffed rabbit out of a basket in there.

“Mommy, I want to take this.”
“On the walk?”
“Yes.”
“No, he stays here.”
“But, I love him!”
“You’ve never even seen that bunny before.”
“Oh, ok.”

Bobo. Case in Point.

I met a few girlfriends for dinner last night, and this was the photo text I got from Jason. It was titled "Seriously, this is what he just put on."

I can't make this stuff up.

Bobo Skee Wotten Totten

Oh, my darling Emerson. You're hell-bent on exhibiting every frustrating behavior that Jason and I did for our parents, aren't you?

We're pretty casual people. We generally always look put together, but on the weekends, we're pretty relaxed unless we have an event. I'm not afraid to go to the grocery store without makeup. Jason and I are usually in sweats when we're at home. Part of the reason for this, is we both dress for work every day. Hair, make up, outfits and accessories, suits/ties, etc. So in our down time, we dress down.

Emerson typically wears sweats or jeans, with t-shirts to school. Play clothes. He doesn't even own a single pair of shoes besides his tennies. He's gotten into habit recently, that the first thing he does when he gets home, is heads to his room and changes clothes. This means going from sweats and a t-shirt, to shorts and a different t-shirt. While he's been particular about selecting his shirts for well over a year now, he's always allowed me to pull the whole outfit together. No more. Emerson usually comes down in whatever items of clothing Jason and I would never dress him in. The red shirt, paired with red shorts. He'll actually ask us, "Mommy, do I look like a Bobo?" Bobo is the term Jason and I use to affectionately describe when Emerson pulls together the most God-awful outfit he possibly could.

Bobo comes from a couple points of origin...Jason and Terra both commonly refer to anything generic as "Bobo"...as in the guy wearing British Knights tennis shoes is wearing "Bobo shoes." It also references back to the childhood sing-songy thing that little girls do...I think I picked up "Bobo Skee Wotten Totten, Eh eh, Eh eh, Bo bo bo..." in Brownies. So, Bobo it is. "No, Em, you really shouldn't wear that shirt with that pants...it's Bobo." Many-a-times, we let it be.

Emerson often leaves the house on a sunny day in rainboots. Why? Well, why not? I think most people that have children or grandchildren take one look at him and know he dressed himself. If not, well, let them judge.

So not only will he pair ridiculous things together, but he'll go through every pair of shorts and sweats he owns in one week's time. About 9 shorts, and 8 pants. In one week. And at least a dozen shirts. I'm ok with this, though. His laundry is still just a load a week. And I know my Mom is giggling to herself, having raised a daughter who changed her clothes incessantly as a child. There were days we didn't leave the house, and I had 6 different outfits I HAD to wear. So, Mia...here you go. I really did have a child who is JUST like me.

Coach Willie - 20 weeks gestation

We had the 20-week ultrasound, anatomy-scan today. All checked out really well. Four visible chambers of the heart, visible bladder, stomach, kidneys, arms, legs, spine, etc. Coach Willie (temporary name coined by Emerson) is measuring right where he/she should be. We decided to again not find out the gender. You really can't beat the surprise in the delivery room. We all have our hunches, but we'll find out in August whether Coach Willie will be wearing pink or blue!

There were lots of other really great shots, showing the whole body, spine, etc. But this one was worth sharing. Even our doctor kept looking at it and telling us we should try to sell it for millions on eBay

Good luck not have nightmares about the child that I’m carrying.
