9 months of Scarlet

Today is Scarlet's 9-month birthday. So we started the day at the pediatrician with two shots, followed by Timbits with big brother! The good always cancels out the bad. I feel like after one bite of a donut hole she's all, "What shots? Mommy loves me."

This month is probably her greatest thus far for milestones. She's crawling, pulling herself to standing, waving goodbye, and mimicking interactions. And this girl loves to laugh! She loves goofing at the dinner table, laughing at Emerson's noises and faces, and often just laughs at/to herself. She has a goofy side that has me a little worried she's going to be even wilder than her big brother. And she's selective about it, but will wave goodbye.

Speaking of the dinner table, I'm thrilled that there hasn't yet been a food that Scarlet has refused. You can tell by looking at her that she gets enough to eat. And it makes life a little easier since she'll eat whatever I give her. She has what we're having. Turkey meatballs, grilled chicken and vegetables, etc. Emerson gets a kick out of the fact that she just eats our food, cut up smaller.

She's tracking the same as Emerson for height and weight at this age. She weighed in at just over 22 lbs. and is 29.5" long. This has her in the 94th and 97th percentiles, respectively. She's heavy. She hurts my arms. But anymore, with her crawling and climbing, she doesn't like to be held for long. Unless she's sleepy. Then she'll cuddle right up and bury her head in your chest. Love those moments. Love this age.

This girl has her brother's natural comedic timing. That's a dried yogurt bite resting on her little nose.

Loving the slow-to-show spring weather for long walks in the 'hood.

Allowing Emerson to show her how cool all her toys are.

Rolling, rolling, rolling...

Her sweetness abounds.

Her goofiness is contagious.

Multi-tasking in the high chair ;)
Instantly irate when her nose is wiped.

A little stronger every day.

And occasionally frustrated at being immobile.

And then one day, she just got it! This is what she's doing every morning now when we go to get her.
Is there any better way to start the day than to this smiling face?

So pleased at pulling herself to standing.
Her caption to this would be something like "World!?!? Do you see me?!?!? I'm standing!!!"

Now that she's mastered all fours, she has started trying other methods of crawling.

I love that her face is like, "What? No big deal. This is what I do now."

So strong! And proud!

Peeks.

And I swear her hair is longer and thicker just this week! And I see curls!

Easter Bunnies and Brunch!

We had a great Easter weekend at home! The coloring eggs photos must be on the camera, so they'll have to wait for another post. If I wait for that, this Easter post may not happen until Thanksgiving. Who uses cameras any more?!?!

We had a great evening with Jason's parents, preparing for the Easter Bunny. Sunday morning, we headed to a very early mass, 8am (patting myself on the back) since we were hosting brunch.

"What's that you say? A large bunny is going to break into our house, and hide our own eggs?"

Leaving a note for Mr. Bunny. He was very clear that he wanted Scarlet to get some nice things, and also wouldn't mind a few things for himself.

The Easter Bunny brought you swim stuff?!?! Perfect timing since we're headed to Florida in a month!

Family of four. I'm sure there's a better photo on the camera, but seriously...like those are EVER going to be uploaded!

Jessica Rabbit and Emerson...at least I think that's Emerson. Stinkin' comedian.

Brunch spread. Special thanks to Pinterest for nearly every recipe seen here. And that bacon you see in the lower left corner was gone about 8 seconds after this photo was taken. In our house, it's every-man-for-himself when it comes to bacon.

Emerson single-handedly found 48 eggs in the yard. With some help from the birthday boy Uncle Jared.

Playing along!

Happy birthday, brother!

Scarlet and the Uncle-Godfather (My Uncle-Godfather. Jared is HER Uncle-Godfather.)
Scarlet and Great Aunt Cheryl. This little girl gets passed around like a bottle of Crown. And loves it!

Winding down...

One of these two is "resting their eyes." And it's not Emerson.

Baths and Bedtimes

What happens in our house between 5:45 p.m. and 8 p.m. is somewhat fascinating to me. From the time we all get in the door from work and school, make dinner, unpack bags, eat dinner, clean up, take baths, prep for bed, feed Emerson again, and then head to bed is like a symphony. A symphony being conducted by a schizophrenic. There's clear organization to the chaos, but sometimes that return trip downstairs at 8:05 p.m. to turn on outside lights and set the alarm, takes the last bit of energy Jason and I have left at the end of the day. But there's a lot of laughter in those 2 hours and 15 minutes we all have together.

Here's a glimpse...

Little girl LOVES the bath, just like her big brother. Can't wait to get her in the pool soon!

All smiles!

Emerson is burying Scarlet under every stuffed animal available on the second floor. You can't really tell, but she loves it.

Waiting patiently...(this was evidently a spaghetti night.)

"Mom, watch me put this duck in my nose."

Recovering from the rinse.

4th meal in our bed...usually consists of sandwich, string cheese, granola bar, banana. Those are not examples. He eats ALL of that for 4th meal every night, which is usually one hour after dinner.

Banana evidence. Can't wait to see how he eats when he's a teenager.

These next two pictures melt my heart...

Saying good night to sister.
And...scene.

Not Crawling

Ever since she spent time with her speedy friend, Norah Lipp, Scarlet has been trying to crawl. Unsuccessfully. We keep thinking, "It's GOT to be in the next couple of days," based on how close she gets. But nothing we'd categorize as crawling yet.

"Are you guys ready? I'm going to do it!"

"I'm terrible at this. How embarrassing."

"Don't look at me."

Maybe one day soon, Scarlet. One day soon.

Spring Soccer - Brrrrrrr.

This is how we do spring soccer...

I don't think it's the cold that's bothering her, it's the inability to move her arms.

Cold, but happy!

When you're stealing all of my body heat, of course you're going to nap.

Emerson and one of his awesome coaches!

Warm and cuddly!

And our little soccer star! Love him so!
