So, this is my official return to the blog. I've been thinking about social media a lot lately --- blogging, Facebook, Twitter, etc. I often work with clients who need advice on how to best utilize social media for their school districts, and how they can best reach parents, community members and media. Basically, it's all about using your resources most efficiently. That being said, I find myself reconsidering my own use of social media for personal updates and sharing of information.
I love telling stories of Emerson, and what's going on in our lives, but lately, I've felt like it's a chore to blog and then follow with photo updates to Facebook. I love sharing the special few photos on FB, but I think I'll reserve most of them for the blog. So, I suppose my decision is that if I'm going to share the Emerson anecdotes, then I'll reserve the pictures associated with those stories for the blog. I'll keep Facebook active, but only for the personal communications, and random real-time photo.
It's been a few months since I've blogged, for a few reasons. I was a little burnt out on social media (i.e., trying to find the balance) and we've had
so much going on. We listed our house 6 months ago, with the intent to sell and move closer to Lancaster. We got an offer the last week of our listing agreement that was very close to what we were asking. Without an identified
next house, we moved forward with the buyers on our home, as we knew that was the major hurdle in any real estate transaction. After cruising neighborhoods and looking online for 6 months, we began the house-hunt immediately, found the neighborhood we wanted in New Albany, and after a few more trips out, found the house. The wildcard was that there would be just under a 2-week gap in possession of houses,
not in our favor. We looked into EVERY option for short-term housing --- houses, apartments, hotels --- furnished and unfurnished. We didn't need more than one month, which was limiting. We have two furry creatures that are a part of our family, also limiting. Luckily, I have a very gracious sister, who was happy to take on 5 new roommates for this period of time.
Jason is getting a little stir crazy without space of his own (especially during March Madness!), but we're all making the best of it. Emerson is way off schedule and has eaten more chicken nuggets in the past two weeks than he has in the two and a half years of his life. But, he's also loving the time with his Auntie. I think Emerson thinks this is one really long slumber party. It is, though, right? In fact, he's napping as I type. A step in the right direction.
More changes ahead as we settle into a new house, neighborhood, community and church. Emerson will also be changing schools in a few weeks. Luckily, he's one of the most resilient children I've known. And always excited about what's next. Jason and I are equally excited...just ready to be past all of the heavy lifting (literally and figuratively) of moving households.
Resiliency, as proven via photos, below...
| Creative band uniform...marching and drumming. |
| Ummmm...busted! |
| So pretty! |
| We came across lots of fun items while sorting and packing...including Jason's clown nose. I don't know why a grown man, who is afraid of clowns, owns such an item. Although, Emerson loved it. |
| And who doesn't love a giant fort of boxes!?!?! |
| More items while packing. One moment, he wants curlers in his hair, while draped in Mardi Gras beads, and the next, he's racing trucks through the halls. |
| Most appropriately, this was on Fat Tuesday. And the beads came at no cost ;) |
