Out on the ocean sailing away
I can hardly wait
To see you come of age
Emerson turned two last week. He’s rounded the corner on toddlerhood, and is quite suddenly a little boy. He’s doing something new and different every day. He pieces words together to make clear statements, and often demands. He asks questions and has such a cool curiosity about him. He plays games and is terribly goofy, and finds humor in himself. He’s wild and fun, in the most lovable way. He has boundless energy, and keeps us on our toes. We, of course, would have it no other way.
But I guess we'll both just have to be patient
When you’re pregnant, you’re constantly told by people how quickly kids grow up, and how they can’t believe their son or daughter is already in high school, or college. Until that child is in front of you, knocking out birthdays, it’s hard to understand just how quickly it really does go. Emerson is so eager to do the next big thing. We, though, are so enjoying these little milestones and moments.
Life is what happens to you
While you're busy making other plans
It’s been a whirlwind of fun and activity the last couple of weeks with Emerson’s birthday, and our extended family vacation. We cherish every second of this time with our little boy. Our evenings are spent having as much fun in a few short hours as we can possibly tolerate. And the fun-filled weekends are aplenty.
Every day in every way
It's getting better and better
We’ve known Emerson for a couple years now. It’s so interesting though, to “get to know” Emerson. I feel like we’re starting to really see him as a person. His personality. His traits. His temper. And his generosity. There’s so much that we’ve been given in the last two years with Emerson, that I can only graze the surface of how lucky we feel to have such a beautiful boy in our lives.
Happy second birthday, Emerson. We love up to the moon, and down again. Around the world and back again.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful boy.
